The Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB) is referred to in French as the Commission scolaire Lester-B.-Pearson, (CSLBP) name was selected in 1998. It was chosen to honour the memory of Lester Bowles Pearson, Canada's fourteenth Prime Minister, who served between 1963 and 1968, and who was also a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957, for his work in organizing a peacekeeping force during the Suez crisis. Lester B. Pearson's great-grandson, who was a student at the school board, attended the official naming ceremony in 1998.
