The Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB) is referred to in French as the Commission scolaire Lester-B.-Pearson, (CSLBP) name was selected in 1998. It was chosen to honour the memory of Lester Bowles Pearson, Canada's fourteenth Prime Minister, who served between 1963 and 1968, and who was also a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957, for his work in organizing a peacekeeping force during the Suez crisis. Lester B. Pearson's great-grandson, who was a student at the school board, attended the official naming ceremony in 1998.
The LBP School Board oversees over 30 Primary Schools, 10 Secondary Schools, as well as a number of Vocational and Adult Education centres. It also offers a number of International Programs.
It is the second largest among the 9 School Boards in Quebec. With an operational budget of approximately 350 millions dollars, it provides quality education to a large number of students (around 20,000). It serves the English speaking population of the western part of the Montreal Island. It stretches over five boroughs: Verdun, LaSalle, Lachine, Pierrefonds-Roxboro, L’Île Bizard-Sainte-Geneviève), and the municipalities of Dorval, Pointe-Claire, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Senneville, Kirkland, Beaconsfield, and Baie-D’Urfé.
